Know what the route is—and what it is not.
Nursing is a regulated profession in Germany. Long-term work as a qualified nurse requires recognition of the foreign qualification and official permission to practise.
Depending on the recognition result, the route may involve full recognition, an adaptation period or a knowledge test. An employer offer and the appropriate employment or recognition residence route are separate parts of the plan.

Who it may suit
Qualified nurses preparing for recognition and employment in Germany.
Understand the distinction before choosing.
These routes have different legal outcomes and conditions. The right starting point depends on your facts.
| Route | Status | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Full recognition + qualified employment | Qualified-employment route | For a nurse whose qualification is fully recognised and who has the required professional permission and a qualifying job offer. |
| Recognition measure | Recognition residence route | Where substantial differences are identified, an adaptation period or knowledge test may be required before full recognition. |
| Recognition partnership | Employer-linked recognition route | In suitable cases, a state-recognised foreign qualification, a qualifying employer agreement and at least A2 German can support recognition after entry; professional practice still requires the applicable higher standard. |

A route should serve the life you are planning.
- Opportunities to develop a healthcare career with a recognised qualification.
- Employment terms, social insurance and potential family options are reviewed for the actual role and permit.
Salary, overtime, bonuses, leave and training availability are employer-specific. No universal under-40 rule or fixed salary package is stated here.
